in the old days [tracker-days] when i started on a tune, i often loaded a bunch of samples. then i could explore different kind of music-forms depending on the inspiration i felt i could handle that particular day. i did this 'coz it seemed natural for me. then i developed some ideas by using samples i found nice/acceptable. the rest i guess is history...

inspiration can many times occur when fiddlin' with some instrument. i can experience with a new lead one day, trying to work something out, then it just comes to me. another time i can get inspired by other musicians, either from real life, films and tv-series like any other musician.
